Radical Drawing - Works from Coventry and the Courtauld
Herbert Art Gallery & Museum
18 October 2019 - 19 January 2020
Radical Drawing was a unique opportunity to explore a group of remarkable drawings by artists who have pushed the boundaries of what it means to draw.
The exhibits were taken from the collections of The Courtauld Gallery in London, the University of Warwick and the Herbert’s own collection, and included works by George Romney, Camille Pissarro, Pablo Picasso, Art & Language, Barbara Walker and Miriam de Búrca. This exhibition offered visitors a series of encounters with works that show the radical and creative potential of drawn marks and lines.
Also on display wer objects from our collections linked to the Courtaulds factory in Coventry, and a film specially produced for the exhibition featuring former employees of Courtaulds Ltd talking about their experiences of working for this significant employer in the city.
This project was a collaboration with The Courtauld Gallery, London, and part of an ongoing partnership between our two institutions.
