Where There Is Light

Coventry Cathedral
Until 5 March 2022

Where There Is Light is an immersive sound and light installation sharing the voices and stories of sanctuary seeking communities from across the country. It asks questions about where we find light in our lives, in ourselves, in others and in the world around us.

With the pandemic continuing to impact our daily lives we hope to start to rebuild, reconnect and transform how communities connect in a time of isolation and loneliness. Where There Is Light offers a moment for reflection, a break in people’s day to day lives, a space to look outside of themselves, to come together and share a sense of connection and hope. The soundscape was made collaboratively and remotely across borders in Leicester, Hull, Coventry and Portsmouth.

In March 2022, the installation toured Coventry, a City of Sanctuary, and resided in the Cathedral Ruins for a week.

Outreach sessions connect with local artists in each city to deliver creative activities with participants. In Coventry we worked with young artists and participants.  These are their responses, as facilitated by the Herbert, recorded to produce this brief film.
